Changes are coming to the Criminal Code of Canada in response to rising concerns about repeat offenders and criminal activity.
Justice Minister Sean Fraser provided an update during Question Period in the House of Commons yesterday.
He was responding to a question from the Conservative member for Foothills, Alberta, John Barlow, about an Okotoks man who was charged after being found in possession of more than 500,000 materials involving child exploitation.
Barlow says the man was released back into the community and he asked Fraser when the bail system will be “fixed.” Minister Fraser said changes are coming this week to the Criminal Code of Canada. That, he says, will include “changes to conditional sentencing orders to be tied to charges impacting crimes like sexual crimes against children.”
