A man is in the lockup after an alleged assault against his partner at a home in Mount Pearl yesterday.

Police were called to the home around 1:45 yesterday afternoon. People nearby told officers they witnessed the man assault the woman.

The two were located and the 46-year-old man was charged with assault by choking.

He was held for court.
