The recreational food fishery begins today across Newfoundland and Labrador.
It looks a bit different this year, with areas under 2J3KL being extended to seven days a week from now until Labour Day. Other areas on the west and southwest coasts remain at three days a week.
Fisheries officer Albert Grandy encourages people to review the rules and regulations on the DFO website before heading out.
He has a couple of points he would like to hammer home, including that people abide by the daily bag limits for groundfish.
Grandy says people are limited to five fish per person, per day. He says people have to keep whatever fish they catch, and that goes towards their daily bag limit. He also encourages people not to waste fish.
Grandy also reminds that fish cannot be processed at sea, and recreationally caught fish are not allowed to be purchased or sold.
