The provincial government is urging people to check and make sure there are no fire bans on in your area before setting off any Canada Day Fireworks.
As per government regulations, the use of fireworks and sky lanterns is banned when the fire weather index is listed as high, very high, or extreme.
Penalties for violating the rules can range from $50,000 to $150,000.
If the use of fireworks is permitted, there are several points that should be kept in mind.
Only people over the age of 18 should be setting them off, and when doing so they should only be used in a clear, open area, or anywhere that has been approved by your town or fire department.
Wind strength and direction should be monitored, and people are asked to respect their neighbours and their properties.
Finally, water should always be at the ready to soak fireworks after they have been fired.
More information on the fire weather index for your area can be found through online.
