The federal government is providing the province with $10.6-million to help tariff-impacted workers.
The program will offer financial relief to some 12-hundred people across Newfoundland and Labrador, with funding to workers and businesses hit by U.S. tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
MP Tom Osborne says the program was created out of necessity to support the many people who currently find themselves out of work.
“It’s available to any worker, any employee, that their employment has been impacted as a result of the tariffs,” he told VOCM News.
“So this will help with transitioning to new employment, training, upskilling. The benefit for employers in the province, is if an employee has been impacted or a business impacted as a result of the tariffs, the upskilling will provide a stronger workforce for Newfoundland and Labrador as well.”
