The Northpine Foundation is giving over $1 million for summer programs on Bell Island over the next three years, and officials with the organization say there is more to come.
Last week, the details of two programs were revealed by the foundation.
The town of Wabana will use their share of the money to create summer jobs for teens on the island, while the local Boys and Girls Club will use their share to fund programs for children.
Impact director Mark Lane describes the money as “the starting line,” and they are hoping to make “multiple” investments on Bell Island in the future.
He floats around the idea of providing money for a daycare, or for new housing projects.
