Lewisporte RCMP arrested a 20-year-old man found unresponsive inside a locked vehicle.
Police were called to the parking lot of a local fast food restaurant Wednesday evening, and found the driver asleep behind the wheel.
The 20-year-old showed signs of impairment according to police and he was arrested and taken to the local detachment where breath samples were taken.
He was charged with impaired driving, his vehicle was seized and his licence suspended.
He was released to appear in court in October to answer to the charges.
RCMP say it is an offence to be impaired while in the care and control of a vehicle – in other words, you can be charged for impaired driving even if the vehicle is parked and the engine is off.
