The mayor of Mount Pearl says it’s so far, so good as it relates to a couple of changes in traffic flow implemented last week.
The city made a few tweaks to the intersection at Commonwealth/Park and Ruth Avenues in hopes of improving traffic flow and safety for those on foot and wheels.
Mayor Dave Aker says it’s early days, especially given the fact that the school year has yet to start, but so far everyone is adjusting well.
The city has also added a crosswalk and a median at the T’Railway on Commonwealth.
Aker says a set of lights have been installed with more safety features to be in place in the coming weeks.
Radar technology is being put in place that will essentially allow the lights at the crosswalk, Park/Ruth and Topsail Road to communicate with each other. If a pedestrian hits the crosswalk light, it may not illuminate right away as the three lights will then try to sync up to allow for the safest time for someone to cross with minimal traffic.
