Ankle monitoring and emergency protection orders were among the topics discussed during a recent meeting of the Task Force to End Gender-Based Violence.
Calls for an electronic monitoring program, similar to other jurisdictions, have been raised following recent gender-based violence incidents in the province.
The provincial government has already indicated that ankle monitoring for those accused of gender-based violence who are on probation or bail is something it’s examining.
Meetings held last week also revolved around the need for post-release supports for those in Labrador, particularly for those incarcerated for intimate partner violence.
Updates were also provided to the task for from a number of government departments including health and social supports and well-being on the province’s poverty reduction and prevention strategy – while the department of justice provided an update on the Policing Transformation Working Group’s recommendations related to gender-based violence.
