SportNL is offering help to families to offset the cost of participating in sports through KidSport NL.
The governing body says cost is a barrier to approximately half of all students interested in joining organized sports, especially in remote communities.
The province-wide KidSport grant program currently has capacity to assist more than 200 students between now and December 31st with up to $400 available per athlete.
The VOCM Cares Foundation recently provided a $10,000 donation, allowing 30 students to access the program.
Eligibility is determined through Statistics Canada’s low-income cutoff, and participation must be for a period of at least eight weeks. Travel and competition costs are not eligible for funding.
