Trades NL has endorsed the Churchill Falls agreement ahead of next week’s special debate on the document.

The provincial government held an event with the trades organization earlier today, calling for support of the deal heading into next week.

Premier Tony Wakeham says Trades NL’s nod is recognition of what the deal will mean for the creation of jobs and new industries, and for opportunities for future generations.

Trades NL Executive Director Bob Fiander says there is currently about a 70 per cent unemployment rate among their members, and people are looking for work everywhere across the country except for in this province.

Therefore, he says the words associated with Churchill Falls are “critically important,” noting that when there’s lots of construction going on the province which is “alive with activity.”
