A Peace Pole was unveiled yesterday at Bannerman Park in St. John’s.
Members of the Rotary Club, as well as representatives from the City of St. John’s, were on hand to deliver remarks and unveil the pole to the public.

The pole, which displays the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in five languages, is intended to be seen as “…a permanent symbol of peace, inclusion and mutual respect within our community,” according to the Rotary Club.
Mayor Danny Breen spoke about the importance of including multiple languages, including three different Indigenous languages, to reflect the history of Newfoundland.

He says it is important to acknowledge the long history of Indigenous peoples and their deep connection to this land.
