The sky is the limit when it comes to potential opportunity for the Stephenville airport, which is back in business with the power back on and new lines being painted on the asphalt to guide aircraft.
The facility has emerged from its darkest period in history with new owners who see a bright future, including the resumption of commercial flights at some point.
Stephenville Mayor Bob Byrnes is certain that the new owners, BTG Capital of Calgary, will look into Prime Minister Mark Carney’s plans for a beefed-up presence in the north. That includes spending hundreds of millions of dollars on improvements to 5 Wing Goose Bay.
“It’s one of the things I am sure they are looking at. We have the area, we have the hangar space, and the military is used to coming in here. As a matter of fact, they’re coming in in in the next few weeks,” says Mayor Byrnes.
