Dawson Mercer was at the rink in New Jersey Friday morning when he was told that he was on his way to the Winnipeg Jets. He and goaltender Nico Daws jumped a private jet and landed in his new city Friday night.

Mercer, who has three 20-goal seasons under his belt, was traded along with three others and two draft choices for disgruntled superstar goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who had asked for a trade.

Mercer, who has yet to find the back of the net this season, had two shots on goal in his debut against the Habs yesterday.

Head coach Scott Arniel told the Free Press that Mercer is versatile in the sense of playing right wing and centre, kills penalties, plays power play, and is a 20-goal scorer.
