Police are looking for the driver of the getaway car after a tangly situation which began in Conception Bay South around the supper hour yesterday.
It started with an altercation between a shoplifter and employees of a retail outlet and ended in St. John’s with the recovery of two stolen vehicles.
An off-duty RNC officer observed the altercation on the main highway. The suspect attempted to leave in a vehicle and the officer intervened. The officer was partially in the vehicle when the person behind the wheel drove away and came to stop a short distance later.
A 38-year-old male shoplifter was arrested for theft, assault, resisting arrest, and breaches of court orders. The driver was identified but left the scene in a stolen vehicle.
The RNC have issued a warrant for the arrest of a 27-year-old woman for driving while prohibited, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, theft, possession of property obtained by crime, and breaches.
Police later recovered two stolen vehicles in the centre city area in relation to the matter.
