Health officials in Labrador say an essential worker from Saskatchewan failed to follow self-isolation rules because of a communication error.
Health Minister John Haggie is satisfied that Labrador-Grenfell Health is fixing the communications problems. But that’s not good enough for Lela Evans, the PC MHA for the Labrador district of Torngat Mountains, especially since the worker in question went on to test positive for COVID-19, causing long, anxious lineups for testing.
The Labrador-Grenfell Health authority said last week that the health-care worker tested positive for COVID-19 after she arrived in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
It also advised people who had visited two stores in the area during specific times to arrange for a COVID-19 test.
The health authority blames a communication error for the woman’s failure to understand that essential workers are required to self-isolate when not at work for 14 days after arriving in the province.
The Opposition has been pushing for COVID testing for essential workers coming into Newfoundland and Labrador.
Minister Haggie says they have a robust system in place which has worked because there have been no new cases in Labrador since last week.
