Husky officials say a decision on the West White Rose Project will be made in “due course” after the company confirmed layoffs in the province this week.
The company will not say how many jobs have been affected.
It’s just the latest blow to the province’s oil and gas sector.
This week it was learned that a potential deal by Irving to purchase the Come By Chance oil refinery had fallen through and some 500 workers at the facility were given their layoff notices.
The provincial government says Origin International is not necessarily the only entity that’s expressed interest in the Come By Chance refinery.
Energy Minister Andrew Parsons wouldn’t name names, but he did hint that others have been kicking the tires as well. He says there has been contact from others who are “interested in the process,” but noted, in the end, the decision will be up to current owners Silverpeak.
