A man who has been instrumental in helping to build, promote and develop soccer in the province for more than half a century is being recognized yet again by the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association.
Gord Dunphy has been named an Honourary Life Member of the NLSA.
Dunphy started his soccer career with the St. Lawrence Laurentians, playing with the team before serving as coach and President of the club. He coached the team to three provincial Challenge Cup Championships in the 1990s.
Dunphy is a member of the St. Lawrence Soccer Hall of Fame, the Burin Peninsula Soccer Hall of Fame, and the NL Soccer Hall of Fame. He served four terms with the NLSA for a period of eight years and was named the 2014 NLSA Executive of the Year.
President Doug Redmond says Dunphy’s life has revolved around soccer and his passion for the game. The awards ceremony will be announced at a later date.
