A 34-year-old Bonne Bay man is has been charged after a large quantity of cash and cocaine was seized from his vehicle.
Around 2 p.m. yesterday, RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection of George Aaron Drive and Route 430, in Deer Lake.
Police say the driver, who has been identified as Stephen Hillier, refused to stop and fled the area. He abandoned the vehicle on private property nearby and fled on foot, but was arrested a short time later.
Police say a large amount of money and a quantity of cocaine was found in the vehicle.
Hillier was charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and breach of a court order. That is in addition to a number of driving-related charges, and a charge of assaulting a police officer stemming from an incident one week ago under RNC jurisdiction in Corner Brook.
He appeared in court today.
