A Conservative MP is calling out the federal government for their handling of Canada’s offshore industry.
MP Greg MacLean is the Shadow Minister for Natural Resources.
In a statement released earlier this week, MacLean called the federal government’s policies related to the sector short-sighted and ill-informed, saying project risk has increased and resource development has become far less certain.
According to MacLean, the impact of this is being felt Canada-wide but is being felt immediately in Newfoundland and Labrador.
MacLean believes that to fix this, the first thing government needs to do is “get transparent,” and provide a regulatory regime that works and indicates that we are in the energy production business for the long term.
