Thousands of people were left without electricity last night as severe weather conditions played havoc with the power grid across the island.
Crews had their work cut out for them, with outages reported across dozens of communities throughout the evening.
Grand Falls-Windsor Fire Chief Vince MacKenzie tweeted a caution to residents to be mindful of downed wires during such treacherous weather after parts of the town went dark.
Gusts reached around 100 km/h in the St. John’s-metro region, while meters in Fortune Bay registered a gust over 140 km/h.
