The Education Minister is scheduled to meet with owners of home-based childcare operations this morning to discuss the government’s $25-a-day plan.
Yesterday in the House of Assembly, Bonavista MHA Craig Pardy said some operators will be forced to choose between good food and care for kids or being able to stay open.
Minister Tom Osborne said nothing could be further from the truth. He says no one is being forced to do anything, noting it’s up to individual owners to decide if they want to join the operating grant program.
Osborne said this morning’s meeting is designed to find ways to reduce red tape and anything else that’s causing concern.
He said a statutory review of the system, as well as a consultation process, is still due to begin in January.
