The government says it’s working through delays with hearings before the Residential Tenancies Board.
PC Service NL critic Loyola O’Driscoll says some people have been waiting up to four months to have their cases heard in order to resolve disputes, which is causing hardship for both landlords and tenants. He also proposed using Zoom or Skype as an alternative.
Service NL Minister Sarah Stoodley apologized for the delays which she said are the result of COVID-19 restrictions that have limited the number of people that can appear before the board.
She said staff are aware of the issue and are working on ways to speed up the process and clear the backlog.
