An affordable housing project in St. John’s with an aim to introduce youth to the construction industry has steered one of the workers down a much different career path.
James Hoskins was one of the workers who helped build a five-unit affordable housing building on Cashin Avenue in St. John’s.
The project was spearheaded by Choices for Youth.
He calls the experience “eye-opening,” and says he can’t go past the finished product without smiling and thinking about everyone working towards that common goal.
He recalls always being drawn more towards construction work, but being a part of the building process has led him to pursue a different career path: Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support, which he is now studying at Eastern Academy.
