Three new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Newfoundland and Labrador on Sunday, for a total of 18 in the past week.
All three new cases are in the Western Health region, two of which are related to three previous cases. One is a man in his 30s and the other is a woman in her 60s. Officials say those two cases are related to the recent cluster in the region, and both are self-isolating.
The third case reported Sunday involves a 40-year-old man returning to the province from work in Alberta who is self-isolating as per the rules for rotational workers.
Health officials say contact tracing is underway in all cases and any close contacts have been advised to quarantine.
They also say the investigation into the source of the infection for the second case in the Western Health region announced Friday has determined that the person was a close contact of someone who returned from work in Alberta.
Public Health has identified six cases of COVID-19 in the Western Health region in the past week, with five of those cases linked to each other.
Newfoundland and Labrador now has 21 active cases, and there is no longer anyone in hospital due to the virus after two people were discharged this weekend.
Meanwhile, Premier Andrew Furey, Health Minister John Haggie and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald will speak to the latest increase in cases during a briefing on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
