Metrobus is pushing ahead with proposed cuts to service to account for the reduction in the numbers of people riding the bus amid the global pandemic.
The key change will be a switch to service that’s usually reserved for the summer months. That will mean longer waits at the bus stop for routes 1, 2, 3 and 10—from 15 minutes to a half-hour—with service also ending an hour earlier at night.
The Metrobus express service had already been suspended earlier in the pandemic.
No full-time drivers will be laid off but there will be reductions for temporary staff and through retirements.
Total savings are estimated to be about $500,000, which still must be voted on by council as part of the entire budget on December 7.
