We don’t have to look very far beyond our shores to find examples of just how quickly and easily COVID-19 can spread in the community.
The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health points to nearby Nova Scotia which has seen a recent surge in cases due to community spread.
The outbreak in that province has prompted the provincial government to impose a 14-day period of self-isolation for anyone traveling to the province, including those from Nova Scotia who were previously exempt from a quarantine period.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald spoke with VOCM Morning Show co-host, Ben Murphy about the COVID-19 situation in Newfoundland and Labrador. She says it is very important for people to keep their number of contacts as small as possible, even through the Christmas period. She advises that people think very carefully about the number of contacts they have.
She says if you work, you have contacts at work; if you go to school, you have contacts at school, and if you add even more people to that, then you have all those extended contacts as well.
