Premier Andrew Furey is denying suggestions that the Premier’s Economic Recovery Team is looking at massive cuts to the public service.
Federation of Labour President Mary Shortall quit the team a few weeks ago leading to widespread speculation about possible job cuts coming.
Furey tweeted out on Saturday, addressing what he calls the “misinformation” being shared regarding the role of the Economic Recovery Team and Chair Moya Greene.
He says Greene is not the premier and she and her team have been tasked with coming up with “big ideas” to “reimaging government.”
Government is the body that makes the decisions says Furey.
He took a swipe yesterday at what he calls the use of “misinformation” in election campaigns.
Furey referenced recent events in the United States and how “less-than-truthful tweets” can “unduly influence” a campaign.
I want to address the misinformation out there about the Premier’s Economic Recovery Team’s report. Dame Moya Greene is not the Premier.

Meanwhile, Tory Leader Ches Crosbie says the Liberals are backpedalling on their messaging surrounding the contentious report by Moya Greene and her economic recovery team.
Greene’s team has been tasked with reviewing government spending and how it delivers services and recommending more efficient ways to do both.
But Crosbie says fears that the report will be a blueprint for cutting and privatizing services have forced Premier Andrew Furey to soften his tone on how it will be handled.
He says the report has gone from being the saviour of the province — with ministers being instructed to do what it says — to being a set of recommendations that will be vetted through public consultation.
Crosbie says if that’s the case, then it should be tabled before voters go to the polls.
An interim report from Greene is due by February 28th — two weeks after election day — with a final report expected by April 30th.
