Mother Nature is bearing down on eastern Newfoundland with the first significant storm of the season.
The snow starts tomorrow afternoon making for a stormy Thursday night and overnight before the cleanup begins Friday morning.
Veronica Sullivan, a meteorologist with Environment Canada at the Gander Weather Office, says winds could be as high as 100 km/h.
The snow first pushes into the southern Avalon around lunchtime. By mid-afternoon, it should hit the metro region and northern Avalon and will start late in the afternoon for the Clarenville area.
The Avalon and Bonavista Peninsulas will see 20 to 30 cm with the possibility of higher amounts. Clarenville, Terra Nova, Bonavista North, Gander, and Bay of Exploits areas will likely exceed 15 cm.
It will taper off early Friday morning for the southern regions, and mid-morning for the northern regions.
Meanwhile, there are blizzard warnings in Labrador beginning this morning in the Hopedale, Nain, Postville and Makkovik areas. Blizzard conditions with poor visibility and blowing snow are expected. About 15 to 25 cm of snow is expected with the possibility of more, along with northwesterly winds of 80 km/h or higher.
