Health officials in Newfoundland and Labrador reported one new case of COVID-19 late Sunday.
But it’s the other recent cases that prompted Western Health to urge all residents of Corner Brook and on the North Shore, Bay of Islands to get tested, whether they have symptoms or not.
Four new cases reported Saturday include a male and female under 20 years old and two women in their 20s or 30s, all close contacts of a previous case.
Sunday’s advisory was issued shortly after 8:35 p.m. but there was no explanation as to the timing of the release.
Officials said Friday they would not be issuing any advisories over the weekend unless they deemed a public health need to do so.
Sunday’s case is a man in his 40s on the west coast and is a close contact of a previous case known to officials. It is not related to the four cases on Saturday, which was equally unexpected.
Eastern Health confirmed late Friday that an employee at the Health Sciences Centre had also tested positive.
More information on that case is anticipated on Monday.
There are now 10 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
