Even though rates of COVID-19 and vaccination numbers are favourable at the moment, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Newfoundland and Labrador’s reopening plan will be accelerated.
The province is expected to hit the 75 per cent threshold for first doses later this week, and an increase in vaccine supply means second dose appointments in all regional health authorities are being bumped up.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says whether or not the reopening plan can be sped up is a difficult question to answer. The next few weeks hold the key.
Getting 80 per cent of the eligible population fully vaccinated is very important to having free movement. She says if the epidemiology is favourable, those are conversations that will be considered at that time.
