Health Canada has issued new information regarding a possible side effect of the AstraZeneca COVISHIELD vaccine.
Health officials are reviewing very rare instances of capillary leak syndrome linked to the vaccine. Symptoms include swollen limbs, low blood pressure, and sudden weight gain.
Out of the roughly 78-million doses distributed in Europe and the UK, six cases were reported as of last month. By mid-June, only one such occurrence was reported in Canada.
As well as updating the vaccine’s label, Health Canada is advising anyone with a history of capillary leak syndrome not to get the AstraZeneca vaccine.
