A local hockey player is going to the big leagues.
Zach Dean of Mount Pearl was chosen 30th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2021 NHL entry draft Friday night.
Dean played in the Mount Pearl Minor Hockey Association before being drafted by the Gatineau Olympiques in the QMJHL. Last year he netted 20 points in 23 games for the club.
The pick marks the third year in a row that a Newfoundlander has been chosen in the first round of the NHL entry draft.
