The Opposition is calling on the Provincial Government and Public Utilities Board to remove the 5-cent per litre tax on gasoline which was tacked on as an interim measure for the Come By Chance oil refinery.
The tax was imposed by the P.U.B. at the request of North Atlantic Refining to help offset extra costs being incurred with the importation of refined product after the refinery had shut down.
Lloyd Parrott, the shadow minister of Industry, Energy and Innovation, says now that the refinery has been sold, the interim increase should be removed. He is trying to get information from the board but all he has been told is that the information is of commercial sensitivity.
