Newfoundland and Labrador’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says they are watching the rising case numbers in Alberta and the United States closely.
As travel restrictions are set to ease even further tomorrow, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says they are always monitoring the situation in other areas in the event the province’s case count starts to climb.
Dr. Fitzgerald says it is not just the number of cases they watch.
She says they also watch the severity of cases and track how many people end up in hospital and the ICU in order to ensure that the healthcare system does not become overwhelmed.
She says most of the travelers entering the province are fully vaccinated Newfoundlanders visiting family, which is less concerning for Public Health, however, they will continue to monitor the situation.
