Newfoundland and Labrador has officially entered the second stage of its reopening plan today.
The move comes two weeks ahead of schedule, as over 50% of the eligible population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Fully and partially vaccinated travelers entering the province no longer have any testing or isolation requirements, and unvaccinated or undisclosed status travelers can be tested on day seven or later after arriving, and can leave isolation following a negative test result.
With the move, indoor and outdoor gatherings have an increased capacity of 350 and 500 people respectively. There is no limit on personal gatherings, as long as everyone is socially distanced.
There is no capacity at lounges and dancing is permitted once again.
Social distancing and the mandatory mask mandate remain in place, however the mask policy will be reviewed on August 9.
Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, stresses the importance of getting vaccinated as restrictions ease.
She says it’s important not only so restrictions can ease, but also to combat the highly infectious Delta variant.
