The number of COVID-19 cases in health care workers in Newfoundland and Labrador is below the national average.
That’s according to the latest report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information.
The report states that, as of June 15, nearly 95,000 cases of the virus have been in the health care workforce. That number represents about 7 per cent of Canada’s total number of cases.
In this province, as of mid-June, there have been 62 COVID cases in health care workers, which is about 4.5 per cent of our total case count.
Meanwhile, the report notes that the proportion of cases affecting health care workers is declining.
While the total number of cases did jump over the winter, from nearly 66,000 in January to nearly 95,000 in June, the share of cases affecting health care workers dropped.
In January, cases in health care workers represented 9.5 per cent of the total number of cases compared to 6.8 per cent in June.
