The Opposition is calling on the Finance Minister to get back to the negotiating table with the province’s medical association.
Thursday, the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association suspended contract talks with government, saying they have no interest in trying to improve the situation.
Shadow Minister of Health, Tony Wakeham, says that the breakdown could not have come at a worse time, with so many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians without a family doctor. He lays the issue at the feet of Finance Minister Siobhan Coady.
He says government have gotten nowhere after ten months of negotiations, and that Coady has drawn a “take it or leave it” line in the sand”. He says it’s clear government do not want to acknowledge that the province is in a healthcare crisis.
He’s asking that government negotiate in good faith, and get back to the table.
