VOCM is hosting a radiothon this morning in support of the Kids Eat Smart Foundation.
Kids Eat Smart provides breakfast clubs and other nutrition programs in local schools at no charge to families.
There are 268 Kids Eat Smart clubs operating in the province with the help of some 6,100 volunteers with over 31,000 meals served every school day.
The program is funded through public and corporate donations. The principal of Helen Tulk Elementary in Bishops Falls, Judith Crocker, says the children love the program but the need for volunteers is growing as the population ages.
Crocker says every little bit of support helps.
She says they have a local resident who faithfully donates two 2-litre cartons of milk to the Kids Eat Smart program every week, “out of the goodness of his heart.”
The radiothon airs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Donations can be made by calling 722-1996 or toll-free at 1-877-722-1996 or online at https://www.kidseatsmart.ca/about-us/ by clicking the ‘Donate Now’ button.
