School councils and parents like the government’s plan for a pre-kindergarten entry into the school system.
The pilot project will launch either in the fall or early winter in select schools as a way to give kids the opportunity to become familiar with the school setting prior to kindergarten.
Don Coombs, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils, says he has heard nothing but positive comments from parents and councils.
He says anytime changes are introduced in the education system, the reaction is usually mixed but not on this one. Coombs hasn’t heard a single negative comment.
He adds that not only will the move address childcare issues, but it will allow for an easier transition to Kindergarten and school.
