The Aviation Room at the Conception Bay Museum in Harbour Grace has received a facelift with the help of some provincial government funding.
The revamped area, featuring the town’s rich aviation history, reopened last month with a private viewing to mark the 90th anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s historic solo transatlantic flight from Harbour Grace to Derry in Northern Ireland.
The exhibit details the town’s aviation history starting in 1919 when the Hangley Page Atlantic was shipped to the town in 105 crates.
The town developed the island’s very first permanent airstrip in 1927 to accommodate the transatlantic crossing of the Pride of Detroit.
The museum reopens to the public for the season starting in late June.
