The Department of Transportation says work is planned for the Argentia Access Road this season.
The department was responding to a recent demonstration held by local residents expressing dissatisfaction with the condition of the major highway.
Ray Murphy of the Route 100 Road Improvement Committee was joined by others on the highway this week greeting tourists and drivers arriving for this weekend’s Nascar event at Eastbound Park near Avondale.

Murphy argues that maintenance is lacking and more needs to be done to keep the road up to the standard of other similar roadways in the province.
The department says all highway construction work is based on need and a variety of factors including safety, traffic volume, speed, and input from engineers as well as weather-related damage.
A bridge on the highway will undergo repairs this year, in addition to a bridge that was replaced last year. Maintenance crews have been out effecting repairs says the department and more repairs are planned for the coming weeks.
MHA Sherry Gambin-Walsh has met with Minister Elvis Loveless to discuss the highway and work that will be considered in the next year.
