The provincial government has provided an update on the condition of the Bay d’Espoir highway heading into the weekend.
They say that based on the weather forecast and fire predictions, the highway will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The province is monitoring conditions in the area and will provide an update if changes need to be made for safety reasons.
They anticipate that in the short term temperatures and winds will be high in the region.
Smoke is expected to be prevalent and dry conditions may affect the development of the fire.
Anyone with medical appointments in the area between now and Monday, that cannot make said appointment due to the fire, should contact Central Health.
The schedule for the opening and closing of the highway will be reassessed on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture is advising cabin owners in the area of the Bay d’Espoir highway to leave the area.
The department says anyone with cabins or campers around Great Rattling Brook (North & South), Miguel and Martin Lake, Tote Brook, Paradise Lake, Sunday Pond and North West Gander River should leave as the forest fire is extremely active.
