A store in St. Mary’s is holding a special celebration today.

John Gibbons Inc is celebrating its 50th year in business, with a barbeque, live music, and prize giveaways, as well as a five-cent discount on gas and diesel.

The business has been in the family for five generations, going back to the 1800s.

Mayor of Riverhead Sheila Lee says Gibbons has gone above and beyond for the people of the region, continuing to provide service through COVID-19 and Dark NL.

She says Gibbons had a generator up and running so that evening when many were without power, they could still come to the store to get whatever they needed.
