People who show up for the monkeypox vaccine starting Monday will not be asked how or why they are eligible for it.
That’s according to the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald.
She announced yesterday that the province will make the vaccine Imvamune available to more people considered high risk.
That includes the two-spirit, transgender, gay, bisexual, and queer communities, men who have sex with men, and their close contacts.
But Fitzgerald made it clear that anyone can potentially become infected.
She notes while monkeypox has disproportionately affected the gay-trans community, there are cases in Canada not linked to those groups, adding that it’s important not to judge or make assumptions, but also to be kind.
Information on monkeypox, precautions, the symptoms and treatment is available on the government’s website or by calling 811.
