An update is coming this afternoon after Central Health announced yesterday that it is reviewing mammography results for patients to identify possible diagnostic discrepancies.
Central Health tweeted the news out yesterday morning, indicating that some viewing workstations used for digital review did not meet the recommended technical standard for the review of mammography images.
The other regional health authorities yesterday announced that they were conducting preliminary reviews in light of the potential issue identified by Central Health. The other health authorities are expected to provide a public update next week on whether further analysis is required.
The health authority says the agency will notify by letter all patients whose images are being reviewed and will contact by phone and letter any patients who have been affected to outline the next steps.
President and CEO Andree Robichaud and Acting Chief of Staff Dr. Mark Spurrell will hold a virtual media availability to discuss what they’re calling a “multi-patient occurrence” in the region.
The availability is happening at 1:30 p.m., VOCM News will be on that call.
