The tuition freeze has ended at Memorial University and that means new full-time domestic students will be paying $600 to register per course, while new international undergraduate students will be paying $2,000 per course.
Students already in the system will see a 4 per cent increase over the next five years.
The MUN Student’s Union says students are anxious about the rising costs, especially when things like inflation and a tight rental market are factored in.
The director of campaigns with MUNSU, Isabel Ojeda, says international students need to be living in a place where they can access the university without a car but there aren’t a lot of options available.
She says students are seeing higher levels of food insecurity and higher fees in all aspects of life.
