A pro wrestling legend is heaping some high praise onto fans from this province.
Known as the Hardcore Legend, Mick Foley has wrestled all over the world.
He reached the pinnacle of his success in the late 1990s emerging as one of the top stars in the WWF at a time when that company was seeing record mainstream popularity.
On a recent episode of his Foley is Pod podcast, the wrestler discussed a series of tag matches he worked in Atlantic Canada in the summer of 1997 against the Hart Foundation.
Foley calls the crowds in St. John’s “incredible” and notes that when the company returned a year later in 1998, the arena gave one of the top 10 reactions he has heard in his entire career.
He says the crowds in Newfoundland were some of the best he’s ever wrestled in front of. He owes that to the province not getting to see shows as frequently as other areas.
Foley was last in the province back in 2018 for his “20 Years of Hell” tour.
