A bursary offered by the provincial government to entice undergraduate medical students at Memorial University has led to 22 students agreeing to work in the province.
The program offers $7,500 in funding to full-time students enrolled in their fourth academic year of the Undergraduate Medical Education Program at the university. In return, the students agree to work in the province for a 12-month period as part of a return-in-service agreement.
Health Minister Tom Osbourne says the bursaries help address doctor challenges.
Government also offers other financial incentives including the Come Home Incentive and the Family Practice Start-up Program.
