The miserable weather in St. John’s failed to deter the spirits of federal workers who held a rally this morning in support of their demand for equal rights and equal pay.
A couple hundred members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada marched east along New Gower Street to City Hall in rain, drizzle and chilly temps.

There, they called for greater acknowledgement of the gap in wages and rights for women and gender-diverse employees.
Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour president Jessica McCormick says provincial pay equity legislation remains a failure to date.
“For decades workers in this province have been calling for proactive pay equity legislation, and what we got from the government this year was a lazy attempt that appears to have been drafted to do nothing more than keep employers happy.”
McCormick says the disenfranchised have had enough.
“We will not stand by while women and gender-diverse people are left to be the ordained shock absorbers of the province’s economy — enough is enough.”
